Greetings from all of us at The Integral Heart Foundation in Guatemala. This year has roared off to a great start.
We are solidifying our core programs, Sponsorships, Kindergartens, Integral Education, and Solar and we are also
working on forming our non-profit entity here in Guatemala. As always, we are most grateful for your support!
Here are some highlights of what has been going on! Debora, Mick, Liz, Reinhard, and all the team at IHF.
Fiscal Sponsorship Program

May saw the much anticipated launch of our Fiscal Sponsorship Program as a method of helping individuals, who are not
necessarily associated with us, to fundraise for their projects.

Here is how it works:
The Integral Heart Foundation is using
its non-profit charity status to help raise money for
humanitarian based projects.
This allows other individuals
or companies to donate to us on behalf of
that project
and those donors will receive a tax deduction.

Click to read an example of how Jon & Amy raised funds
for their ninth grader's eco-justice project in this way.

To qualify, your idea must be aligned with our mission
and vision. There is no limit to the amount of funding
you can raise and the fee charged goes to support our work!

Evolving Culture

Education is the heart of the work of the Integral Heart Foundation in Guatemala. The Critical-Thinking Program for teenagers is about changing culture from the inside out. We are working towards this goal, not by teaching our students what to think, but by teaching them how to think for themselves.

In April we had a special event as part of our Wisdom Speaker Series. This guest lecturer was Andrew Cohen and it was hosted
by Derek Steele at the Centro de Ideas in Antigua Guatemala.
The depth of the teachings that were delivered made for a
great evolution of consciousness and culture in Guatemala
and it really felt as if we were in Plato’s Academia.

Rachel's Amazing Work
Rachel Kantor (13) of Massachusetts, with the help of her mom
Lisa, has committed to sponsoring Carmen (12) in Guatemala.

Rachel is having her Bat Mitzvah (Jewish rite-of-passage in which
she assumes adult responsibility for her values and religious/
spiritual endeavors). As part of this rite of passage, she has decided
to make sponsoring Carmen her "Mitzvah project," a project in which
she participates in "tikkun olam" or "healing the world."

And, so far
she has raised over $1,200 from family and friends!

Look at the difference in 2 years!
In January of 2011, one of the Guatemalan project directors
with whom we work told us of three particularly needy children,
Luis, Jimena and Chente (see here to the left - click image for
the full size version).

These three were abandoned in an environment of irresponsible
and addicted adults, not unusual here in Guatemala. But, they
were to become the first three kids in our Kindergarten Program.
Just look at Chente, two years since we found him!

them, please see this page.

Reality Check?

With 1,617,248 views, this reality check is surely worth a watch.

Activist and fundraiser Dan Pallotta calls out the double standard that
drives our broken relationship to charities. Too many nonprofits, he says,
are rewarded for how little they spend -- not for what they get done.
Instead of equating frugality with morality, he asks us to start rewarding
charities for their big goals and big accomplishments (even if that comes
with big expenses). In this bold talk, he says: Let's change the way we
think about changing the world.
